Synopsis:Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.
Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.
The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family. What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?

My thoughts

Cover:A fun cover. One of my favorite.Good thing it's a Gem hides underneath.A coca-cola type bottle filed with blood and slurped up with a straw. The pun with the title is genius.Bravo to the designers.

Book:DSL[drink, slay, love] was in my first ever Simon & Schuster Galley grab and the first time i saw it. So glad i downloaded and read it. A true gem[for me at least]

Late at night! Some vamps in hip modern clothes[what? teens are hip nowadays] are on the prowl. Pearl Sage Rose,a teen vamp among them. The others call it a nigh when dawn draws nearer.Pearl says she will be home soon and lingers further,She scenes something.Something strange appears ; A majestic radiant beast. Is she hallucinating? No she's not it's real and charging towards her. Stabs her in the heart. Nothing is noticeable at first but she is changing inside slowly but surely she develops a conscious and her skin does not turn into ash in sunlight

Something perilous is in preparation to happen and it breaks her heart! What to do? How will she save her newly found friends and classmates

DSL begins at the start of a new school year

I <3 Pearl whole heartily. She's mean, cruel and sarcastic but she changes and she 's now between mean and kind, cruel and nice, not evil but not entirely good either , still sarcastic and witty and definitely
still but-kicking. I would totally date her./ What i like those kind of galls!!i'ma dude btw!! She's Gothic how cool is that. But be careful when meeting the FAMILY[ Bwha ha ha ... choking ...need air .air lol/failed evil laugh] Totally got hooked and emotionally attached to her right from the start ^_^. She aint no disney damsel in distress or waiting for her prince charming. But finds the beginning of Love/Amor at the end. Don't let her go DUDE.lol

A other outstanding character that has a prominent role is Evan. He writes poetry [if i remember correctly he don't judge me i read in September 0'11] caring, kind and model son every parent who'd wish for but scarred i think?!

Matt and Zach , two wannabe vamp hunters are hilarious and really uplifting the mood of somewhat dreary parts of this book

Other outstanding characters
the classmates well most of them
Bethany her ooh soo perky BFF
Evan's parents[ awesome parental figures]
Pearl's clan and neighboring clans

The writing was fast and quick. In no way felt detached to Pearl. My favorite scenes where;
Pearl meets Evan after he nearly run her over and she thinks ; Why do humans talk so much and why is he so kind to me

The other one is when Pearl the library and sees the sunlight shining trough the beautiful colored windows on that same morning she meets Evan

DSl is told in 1st person narrative and in Pearls pov. I ENJOYED the reading experience and can't wait to read Miss Durst other stand-alone novels. I highly recommend this

This is a 100% honest review

songs that fits perfectly with this book and do generate a atmosphere.

Fits perfectly with Pearl at the end

  8. I felt the exact same way!! This book was one original gem of pure fun and awesome characters! I mean, have you ever heard of a unicorn & vampire book other than this one?? x) LOL! And I adored Pearl too for the same reasons as you! She wasn't overly anything (except sarcastic in the best possible way) and it was definitely refreshing. :)
