Lies Beneath (Lies Beneath #1)[ add to Goodreads]

Rating : 2.8/5

Synopsis:  Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him

My thoughts

Cover : What’s that on the surface? Blood? Bloody excellent plus a malicious mermaid. Perfection [ I love green]

Book : Lies beneath was  one mine  10  highly  most anticipated releases of 2012 .  Sad to say it was a letdown.

I expected  a dark book. What the synopsis said it would be. Not that dark at all. Not even grey [ a color joke , I think =^_^=[random meow] TVD[the vicious deep was not that dark but fun . LB  was boring. Link to the vicious deep ]  I dove into Lies beneath . Instead of a tsunami I experienced a tiny ripple.

The plot was slow and I became bored at page 150. The beginning was ok. We  meet  Calder White  and his ‘’sisters’’. Maris [a crazy bitch], Talulah [ a murderous pinky pie, who ‘’accidently’ kills her  romantic flames] and last but not least the native bombshell  Pavati . They request Calder to return home[ cold lake  Superior ]from his Caribbean vacation  to avenge the murder of their mother and kill the  grown up son of the man that did it decades ago. The story lacked that extra something. I did not fall for the characters  or care for them except Calder and Talulah [c’mon she reminds me of pinky pie/ I’m a proud brony]

I have to give props to the mermaid lore. Some what creepy . They feed off of the energy of happy humans, they transform in water which allows them to travel on land, and their bodies radiate signals to draw innocent souls to the water.
And to lily for being suspicious  and not falling for Calder at first sight. The romance was weak but ok

I was disappointed when  I had finished Lies beneath. At least Calder’s  narrative help my trough it. Sad to say  I did not love it. Maybe I’ll continue the series. Read  my review with a grain of salt. A lot of people liked it even some blogging comrades of mine , maybe you will too

one of my favourite trailers and a soothing voice. To lure, to kill
sad i did not love Lies Beneath

  1. Good review! I keep seeing this particular book but hadn't read up on it really before today. Nice cover, but I don't know now if I'm in a hurry to get it!
    Many thanks!

  2. Hi Roro! Well, since I haven't read any mermaid books yet, I won't start with this one. I'm waiting for Wake by Amanda Hocking. You'll have to try it too. I think it comes out in a couple months.

  3. Aww it's a shame it let you down! Great honest review though, Roro. It seems like everyone has mixed thoughts on this so I don't know if it's worth my time.

  4. I didn't like it much, either. :( Good to see I wasn't the only one. LOL

  5. I too wanted dark ..very dark. It started out that way..but quickly changed. I rated it higher because I did find the twist on Mer lore interesting and loved the male pov. Awesome review sweetie!

  6. I have had this one for review for far too long and since it has been a bloggy slut I have lost my enthusiasm. I want dark , too. Oh well. I appreciate your honesty, Rogier.

  7. That's a bummer. Most of the reviews I've read have said the same thing though.

  8. Too bad you didn't love Lies Beneath, Roro! I loved it and the mermaid lore was definitely one of my favorite things about it! Fantastic honest review :)

  9. I just started on it and the beginning seems okay, like you said :)

I like your style and the colour joke is kinda funny *grins*

Great and honest review! (I really hope that it's blood on the cover, that'd be totally cool)

  10. I wanted to read a mermaid book, but I was between Lies Beneath and Of Poseidon. I think I'm going to go with Of Poseidon just because of the mixed reviews for Lies Beneath. I'm sorry you didn't love it, but thanks for the honest review!

  11. First, your rating made me smile! LOL I love it when you guys put odd decimals as ratings -- it's so much more spunky than the regular point five ;) But most of all, I like how you're always honest but not brutal. I'm intrigued by the darkness even though it may not be perfect!

Thanks for the awesome honest review, Roro the scholar! :) <3

  12. I really want to read this book... i'm hearing mixed reviews but reading yours makes me think otherwise *sigh* I'm not sure if i'll pick this up soon... I haven't read many mermaid book but I think I might get Monstrous Beauty instead. Thanks for the review!

  13. This has been sitting in my NetGalley box for so long. I have been really looking forward do it, but after reading your review, I feel a little less enthusiastic about it. Your review is great, by the way. Absolutely hilarious.

  14. Damn! So sorry this was a fizzer for you, Roro! I tried reading this one, and I didn't DISLIKE it, but it just never really grabbed my attention. GREAT review :)

  15. With havin so much content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright
violation? My site has a lot of unique content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any methods to help protect against content from being stolen? I'd truly appreciate it.
