my most anticipated summer
More than anything, Tom Raines wants to be important, though his shadowy life is anything but that. For years, Tom’s drifted from casino to casino with his unlucky gambler of a dad, gaming for their survival. Keeping a roof over their heads depends on a careful combination of skill, luck, con artistry, and staying invisible.

Then one day, Tom stops being invisible. Someone’s been watching his virtual-reality prowess, and he’s offered the incredible—a place at the Pentagonal Spire, an elite military academy. There, Tom’s instincts for combat will be put to the test, and if he passes, he’ll become a member of the Intrasolar Forces, helping to lead his country to victory in World War Three. Finally, he’ll be someone important: a superhuman war machine with the tech skills that every virtual-reality warrior dreams of. Life at the Spire holds everything that Tom’s always wanted—friends, the possibility of a girlfriend, and a life where his every action matters—but what will it cost him?

This summer there are a lot of YA books with a male MC. i\m exited to read. virtual reality and reall danger. Freaking awesome

Review: Halflings by Heather Burch

Halflings (Halflings #1)

Date publication : January 17th 2012
Rating : 1.5/5

Synopsis:After being inexplicably targeted by an evil intent on harming her at any cost, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. Sworn to defend her, misfits Mace, Raven, and Vine battle to keep Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret—and the wings that come with.
A growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. While she risks a broken heart, Mace and Raven could lose everything, including their souls. As the mysteries behind the boys’ powers, as well as her role in a scientist’s dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that will affect the future of an entire race of heavenly beings, as well as the precarious equilibrium of the earthly world.
my thoughts
Cover: A pretty decent cover. Are those wings? I loved the red hue

Book:I was in the mood for an angel book thus requested it on netgalley.Sad it was disappointing. The religious undertones were not a problem , the characters were.

I always try to finish a book and finishing this one was grueling. The love triangle was annoying. I tried not to be a cynic while reading the reading romance and ended up laughing.[ i'm rarely cynical] I tried to like it but sadly no success.

The MC is supposed to be an rocking kick butting heroine but was in fact one the whiny bunch. Which boy am i going to choose, which "brother".

Yeah falling in love is forbiden and  is dangerous for there souls . Gimme a break. I do have to say the youngest "brother" is the best of the bunch and the funniest.Really he is a Hoot.

The prologue was freaking amazing , exiting. A chase. Nikki is being chased by hell hounds. And then the "brothers" appear . The halflings. WHY,WHY,WHY could the rest not exceed the prologue. The rest felt like reading a textbook, the prologue excluded.Flat and boring

A couple of people loved.Sad i did not. I read raving reviews. If you are interested.Give it a try.Maybe you are the one that will love it.

thanks to Zonderkidz for approving my request of Halflings

Review:Pieces of Us by Margie Gelbwasser

Pieces of Us [add to Goodreads]
by Margie Gelbwasser
Published by Flux
Date publication :March 8th 2012[tomorrow eep]
Rating: 4.5/5

Synopsis:Two families. Four teens. A summer full of secrets.

Every summer, hidden away in a lakeside community in upstate New York, four teens leave behind their old identities…and escape from their everyday lives.
Yet back in Philadelphia during the school year, Alex cannot suppress his anger at his father (who killed himself), his mother (whom he blames for it), and the girls who give it up too easily. His younger brother, Kyle, is angry too—at his abusive brother, and at their mother who doesn’t seem to care. Meanwhile, in suburban New Jersey, Katie plays the role of Miss Perfect while trying to forget the nightmare that changed her life. But Julie, her younger sister, sees Katie only as everything she’s not. And their mother will never let Julie forget it.
Up at the lake, they can be anything, anyone. Free. But then Katie’s secret gets out, forcing each of them to face reality—before it tears them to pieces.

My thoughts

Cover: The blue sky, the green field , the swing set in motion on a summer day got my attention like that when i first say it last year on a IMM of christi at the story siren. That scene has a huge and important part in this great and touching YA.

Book When i first say it on netgalley i flipped out[ok that’s overdoing it a bit,i was really exited] i requested.Crossing my fingers and toes. BUT i got declined,I requested it again and got declined for the second time.I finally got aprroved.Thank you Flux. I though"need to read this soon".My contanious effort was not for nought.

Before i start this review, this is dark.I was prepared for it but got schocked still. It was meant to be schoking

These teens are f*cked up.I can’t believe the parents did not see their kids were hurting inside. But he that reality .A lot of parents are to buzzy to see or sence whats happening.I have to ad there were great parental figures. The grandpa and ma’s.

Some parts of the synopsis are abit misleading. A summer full of secrets. The story takes place over two years and not one summer. Some people might find the pacing a bit dragging. But in mine opinion it was needed to tell the story

The writing was nice to read and flowed smoothly. In four different pov’s that of Katie,Alex,Julie and Kyle’s.I have not read a other book that's written in 2nd person that i can remember.I loved.Love different pov but their chapters were a bit short at times. That only irked me. Non the less i could connect with them all. I would glad to jump through the pages to comfurt them. Probably there reaction could be’’wtf , who are you’’ lol

All four teens had 360 turn around[for the better or worst] in my opinion and character growth. The katie, julie, kyle and alex i first met were different at the end.katie was a bitch and alex a @shole.But i got to care for them.A huge plus.Kyle and Julie doubted themselves a lot but that changed[i gotta try to doubt myself]I felt connected to Kyle a lot and saw a couple of things of me in him[YA SAVES].I can say the secret that’s come to light liffted and helped with a lot of hurt and pain. And eventually a more grounded love for all of them to each other and close people around them

If you love dark topics , no let me rephrase that like reading about dark topics in contemporary YA.This not a light read.Kinda dark is an understamend.I recently read that book banners are trying to ban it of its language and real heart braking stuff teens encounter.Give it a try.I can't wait to read miss Gelbwasser other book, inconvenient.

thanks to Flux for approving my request of Pieces of Us

Review: Article 5 by Kristen Simmons

Article 5 (Article 5 #1)
by Kristen Simmons
Published by Tor Teen
Date Publication : January 31st 2012
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis: New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.
The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.
There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.
Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren’t always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it’s hard for her to forget that people weren’t always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It’s hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.
Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.
That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings…the only boy Ember has ever loved.

My thoughts

Cover:One of my Love at First sightcovers.Crumbled socity and it's perfectly pictured. A teenage girl and a boy on a hill and what looks like a wartorn Chicago is in sight down below.

Book:The cover drew[but you all know that right now ^-^]since i saw it last year early august.I was pinning to read was so happy to see there were arc giveaways but 99% of those only USA allowed so i took matters into my own hands and emailed a review request to Tor publishing and fingers crossed of course. So happy they aproved[ a e-arc is still an arc]It was worth the trouble[ asking and wishing]

Wartorn America. Everything changed.Crumbled cities, broken down houses and broken lives. The bill of rights are condemned and the moral statues are declared.Say adieu to freewill.

With the SOPA/PIPA and now ACtA ; controlling the new for 'our own good'.Article 5 seems very real and could happen in the near future. No nature disasters but a war caused the fall, the doctrine. Realistically scary is the world building. The writing was so so aaah.I imagined every scene clearly.

Ember a 17 year old [i so love that name] in violation of article 5 is taken[imprisoned] and brought to a rehabilitation center. Scared as heck but grew immensely within her being scared she became fiery and would do everything in her being to escape , survive.

Chase a broken down soldier. The one who imprisoned her under direct orders.I would jump into this tale to just to say 'Everything is stark and dark right now but things will be OK , don't know when but it's gonna be OK, there's a silver lining out there'.

There love is what i call true love no matter how rocky and bumpy it was believe you me , it was.And not a wishy-washy YA insta-love.Discovering secrets that can hurt both. Her trying to trust and love him all over again.

I highly recommend Article 5.A dystopia what could be real in not so far future. A good thing today is Article 5's book birthday[ trows internet confetti]Hope you all check it out

thanks to Tor teen for approving my request

Review: Pure by Julianna Baggott

Pure (Pure #1)
by Julianna BaggottPublished by Grand Central Publishing
Date Publication  February 8th 2012
Rating: 4/5
Synopsis: We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . . Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .
There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it's his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.
When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again.

my thoughts

Cover:One of the pretties out there.Thank goodness no girl in dress one.A bit symbolic if you ask me.A dainty fragile life[the butterfly] above a rough bizarre ruthless dangerous earth has become.

Book: I requested This one because of its cover[I the color scheme.]It was good but not a complete hit for me.

A normal day, normal life, normal earth. But than it happened, The Detonations and everything changed.A perilous blistered earth emerged.Pressia found safety in the Dome but not many were that lucky.Things merged, fused, humanity has altered. If you can call it human.Partrige resides there , out side and one of them. There meeting, a pure and a wretch will change everything.

In my opinion Pure is not a YA but more of a Crossover like the night circusby Erin Morgenstern. The writing style was earthy[if that makes sens]The story is told in two main pov's. partridge and pressia.

The world building was bizarre, strange, gruesome, wild, weird and vivid One of the main reasons i kept reading.Imagine a picture when reading these words; meltlands, rubble fields.Pure is more post apocalyptic than dystopian.Liked that the before was still known to have existed but steadily fading away and forgotten.

the deathy houses all fell down
the deathy houses all fell down
the sick souls wander'round and 'round
watch out! they drag you underground
.

Did not feel attached to the main characters although i got pretty darn close. But still looking forward to the sequel

If you 're into post apocalyptic and exotic wold building give it a try.Maybe the characters will "speak' to you.

Review:New GirL by Paige Harbison

New girl
by Paige Harbinson
Published by Harlequin teen
Date publication  January 31st 2012 by HarlequinTeen
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis:They call me 'New Girl'...
Ever since I arrived at exclusive, prestigious Manderly Academy, that’s who I am. New girl. Unknown. But not unnoticed—because of her.
Becca Normandy—that’s the name on everyone’s lips. The girl whose picture I see everywhere. The girl I can’t compare to. I mean, her going missing is the only reason a spot opened up for me at the academy. And everyone stares at me like it’s my fault.
Except for Max Holloway—the boy whose name shouldn’t be spoken. At least, not by me. Everyone thinks of him as Becca’s boyfriend but she’s gone, and here I am, replacing her. I wish it were that easy. Sometimes, when I think of Max, I can imagine how Becca’s life was so much better than mine could ever be.
And maybe she’s still out there, waiting to take it back.

My thoughts

Cover: Defenitely a cover-love of mine. Love underwater covers. I think it depicts a scene from the book. A disaster, a mystery will come to light.

Book: Honestly I only requested in on netgalley because of the cover[^_^]. Read my first Harlequin teen title not long ago so when not give this a shot. Totally worth my 8 hours reading this, in one setting.

A new girl is accepted to a Ivy league boarding school, Manderly.Arrives there and immediately all most of her peers dislike." She's trying to replace'' Rebecca, who went missing the summer before. What happened to her? Will she come back? a mystery! Denial, Vengeance,Lust,Hatred

This is an retelling of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca.I've heard of it but have not read it. So i can't say which one is better, the retelling or the original.

This story takes place at the start of a new school year, senior year, high school.

The storytelling was fantastic.Told in two perspectives,Rebecca, missing, and the main character that remains nameless till the end.Yes she is mentioned as 'New Girl'.The past and 3th person pov of Rebecca's chapters and the present and 1st person pov of New Girl is beautifully interwoven

The focus of this retelling are the moments and experiences throughout the school year at Manderly from the past[Rebecca] and a year later, the present; New Girl's experiences.

Rebecca was manipulative, conifing and the puppeteer of her surroundings and 'friends'.You 'll love despising her. I almost felt pity towards her at the end.Almost

Other outstanding characters
Max
Jonathan
the art professor
The academy

New girl the complete opposite.Caring and kind.Only thing i disliked that she she let people push her around. But she gets a backbone atthe very end.

There was scandal.[Scandalous]cheating, hatred, betrayed, humiliation.but true friendship around New Girl.Manipulated amor. The real thing with New Girl. Dude, Dude the ending lines, the revealed mystery was THA BOMB If you're into mysteries, standalones give it a try. A paranormal rut remedy

Thanks to netgalley and to Harlequin teen approving request

Review:Everything You Need To Survive The Apocalypse by Lucas Klauss; ?!!

Everything You Need To Survive The Apocalypse
By Lucas Klauss
Published by Simon Pulse
Date Published: January 3th 2012
Rating: 2.5/5

Synopsis: Phillip's sophomore year is off to a rough start. One of his best friends ditches him for a group of douchebags. His track coach singles him out for personalized, torturous training sessions. And his dad decides to clean out all of the emergency supplies from the basement, even though the world could end in disaster at any moment...and even though those supplies are all Phillip has left of his dead mom. Not that he wants to talk about that. But then Phillip meets Rebekah. Not only is she unconventionally hot and smart, but she has seriously great boobs. And she might like him back.As Phillip gets closer to Rebekah, he tries harder and harder to turn himself into the kind of person he thinks she wants him to be. But the question is, can he become that person? And does he really want to?

My thoughts

Cover:I really like this one.The cover i mean. Its simplicity and eye catching appeal drew me in.I like collage like covers. It seems like warmth is spreading.

Book: It was in my galley grab and i looked it it up. A YA debut so I thought''cool i'm so reading this for my DAC of 2012'' which is hosted by Kristi @ the story siren

First I have to say I know writing is hard work "cough"cough"my writing sucks"cough so far. Practice means perfect.Second I do not bash authors and only share my feelings in a polite and mannerly fashion.

The title is misleading! It's not a dystopian or apocalyptic but rather a contemp. I've started to love contemp. But EYNTSTA[acronym for Everything...need..apocalypse] was rather disappointing for me. But he that's me, i read gr8 reviews on goodreads, amazon and blogs. People differ.

It has religious/christian undertones. No biggie for me at all. But it was boring and long. I finished it.^_^. The characters did nothing for me; meaning i did not get to know them like ''real people''. Was a tad preachy ; that was a bit iffy i have to say.

I did not like the characters in EYNTSTA except Rebecca, the romantic interest.Who was likable.

Philip our protagonist. I did not like him at all. He acted like a real like teenage dude, a real life jerk. He was annoying at times.

And his friends; Mat and Asher. Did not know why they were buddies. They scold and humiliate each other. My dude friends hit each other till their fists turn red.[hurts] but not that.

The writing was likable and this is told in 1st person narrative.

Netgalley reading challenge,

Basically, NetGalley Months are month long read-a-thons in which we all read as many NetGalley books as humanly possible.

For those of you that don't know, NetGalley is a service for people who read and recommend books. Publishers upload galleys to the site for NetGalley members to request.
One of my favorite things about NetGalley is that anyone who reads and recommends books can use it for free. If you haven't already, you can register here

Well, July and August and sempembr, I didn't read as much as I wanted to, but this time, I will read atleast 10  netgalley books. I just really need to read them!

So now I've declared myself. If you guys want to join in, here's the sign up post
