Review: Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver

Liesl and Po
by Lauren Oliver
Published by  HarperCollins
Date Publication: October 4th 2011
Rating: 2/5

Synopsis: Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice—until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone. That same night, an alchemist's apprentice, Will, bungles an important delivery. He accidentally switches a box containing the most powerful magic in the world with one containing something decidedly less remarkable.
Will's mistake has tremendous consequences for Liesl and Po, and it draws the three of them together on an extraordinary journey.

My thoughts

Cover:It's a decent one.Like the gold cover.Bummer that was the only likable thing for me.

Book:It never was on my wishlist.I got a hint from Booksake[check them out, there awesome book reviewers] that it was a free read at Harpercollins.com. Not a complete disappointment for me. I still wanted to know what Liesl and Po would encounter on their travels.I never bash an author. This review includes my honest opinions.

This middle grade has gotten a lot of hype and was not that interested. It was a free read.Nothing to loose.Liesl and po is sad and dreary read. That was not a problem for me

descriptionBut the bland writing and worldbuilding and characters were the reason for the two star rating. I felt no connection to the characters except bundle a cat-dog like shadow creature and it does not even talk or a lot of ''screen time''

from the official website. i do have to say great art for a middle grade

Liesl and Po was not for me and I'm now less likely to read deleruim and pandemonium.Don't let me deter you to read liesl and po.You may love it

Legend of the Inero Dragon Book Tour: Review

MY 2nd day on the tour is here[belated //shame on you roro]. The complete schedule is posted here and is hosted by Patricia @http://www.patriciasparticularity.com
Link to the review of bookis is here   Legend of the Oceina Dragon

Legend of the Inero Dragon
by J.F. Jenkins
Published Astraea Press
Date Publication:  January 16th 2012
Rating: almost 4/5 [3.8]

Synopsis: Twin brothers Jason and Matthias Inero are the favorite sons of the great dragon lord of fire. More often than not they get whatever they want. Matt wants to do great things for his people while Jason wants to go off and explore the world. Both can have what they desire, but not until they take a bride and enter into adulthood.
Enter Kat and Gwen, two girls from very different backgrounds. Kat is happy to leave her home when the royal guard comes to bring her to loving arms of her childhood sweetheart, Matt. Gwen on the other hand is livid to be taken from her farm only to be thrust into Jason's life, and he's not to thrilled with the idea either. They have one year to find happiness with each other, or else they will be placed at the mercy of the ruthless dragon lord Lynx. Favorite or not, dragon law must be obeyed.
As their nation begins to prepare for war against a neighboring tribe, the brothers find themselves as key components in the battle plans. A dark prophet has had a vision of Inero victory, but at what cost? Both must decide where their loyalties lie and what they're willing to sacrifice – including each other – to achieve their goals

My thoughts

Cover: I think it's Gwen and Jason.Love the fire pictured on the cover. The fire of Inero

Book:The sequel was way better than the first. It's a companion novel you could say but still book two in a series. From the point of view of the enemy!?. The Inero

Two borthers, twin brothers.
Gwen is taken from her loving family
Kat is happy to been taken away from here's
There lives intermingle. Some are strangers to each others. Some not. Are the Inero really the enemy or something darker ,crueler and evil??

The world building was not as confusing as book 1. Maybe because i already experienced it.

We're in the Inero Nation, Inero territory. Things are done differently here. Not as democratic as Oceina.

its narrated by for people. Gwen, Kat, Jason and Matt. But its a brother book. Jason and Matt's story. There lives from knowing each other till now.

Book two is a reversal of book 1. Everything from their POV. You are probably thinking would we not read the same dang thing over again?? NO. Definitively not .New inside stuff are known, are discovered. Have come to light. Stuff.

The ending was awesome. All i'm saying there is something dark and evil and somethuing light and good. Is the something that's light and good really good??

Sorry if i'm so cryptic and mysterious. Bwha ha ha. I can't seem to write this review without spoilers but glad i succeeded. I can't wait for book three in this series. The last one i think. Hoping it releases this spring

Review: Legend of the Oceina Dragon by J.F Jenkins

The Dragons Saga: Legend of the Oceina Dragon
by J.F. Jenkins
Published    Astraea Press
Date Publication:  February 22nd 2011
Rating: 3.5/5

Synopsis:  Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he¹s loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn¹t even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she¹s going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she’s forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.
When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

My thoughts

Cover: I'm loving it. Yes it is not published by a big publisher and maye the cover is cover abusted out there, but this is exactly how I pictured Tai and Darien. On of my new beloved fictional couples

Book: I signed up for the tour of book two after i found i could read book 1. I took a leap of faith.I could have hated these books.Happy to have read it.

Once upon a time the Great Lord created dragons to protect mankind. 4 types of dragons. 4 different elements

We see Tai, a young lady, around 18 years of age living on a small island in Oceina territory.Wondering why dragons are following her since the age of 13 ish or at least she thinks they are following her in daily routine of life. Her mom tells her that she's been chosen as a sacrifice to the grear oceina dragon. Sacrifices are not uncommon. But is this really a sacrifice?

The writing was easy to follow and not too simplistic like a certain book i read this year. The world building was good but got confused a bit. It is a modern world. They have cell phones but the writing gave me old world, Medieval feel.

It has a dual narration . Tai and Darien POV. But this darien's story.

Darien around the same age as Tai in years. Not human years. He's a dragon, the youngest son of the Oceina lord and touched. What do you think that is?? Water is his element. The element of Oceina. Very kind but the oddball in the family. Members of the family despise him for what he's done. It was not his fault. His birth

Tai was not a kick butting girl. Just a normal girl in and a wall flower in her eyes and can't seem to understand why Darien sees in her.I quite liked her bit bitchy towards Darien but she falls for Darien in the end.

The romance was great. It was real.I was happy they supported each other in the end. It was more adult than YA . New adult.

Felt the loss , the pain of losing a loved one. Politically involved.Enemy caused. A neighboring tribe, a different species. The Inero, FIRE. But are they the real enemy

I quite liked it. Love shifters, love dragons, LOVE dragon shifters.I immediately began reading book two

Exiled (The Protector #1)
by M.R. Merrick

Publication Date:  August 27th 2011 by M.R. Merrick

Chase Williams is a demon hunter in the Circle, or at least he was supposed to be. On his fifteenth birthday, Chase stepped up to the altar to claim his elemental power, but it never came. Elemental magic is passed down to a hunter through the bloodline, but on Chase's birthday, the bloodline stopped.
Exiled without the Circle's protection, Chase has spent two years trying to survive a world riddled with half-demons and magic. When he has a run in with a frightened and seemingly innocent demon, he learns the Circle's agenda has changed: the Circle plans to unlock a portal and unleash pure-blood demons into the world. Vowing to stop them, and knowing he can't do it alone, Chase forms a reluctant alliance with Rayna — a sexy witch with an attitude and a secret.
In their attempt to stop them, Chase and Rayna find themselves in the middle of the Circle's plan, leaving one of them to decide what their friendship is worth, and the other's life depending on it.

Shift (The Protector #2)
by M.R. Merrick

Publication Date:  February 1st 2012 by M.R. Merrick

Devastated by the loss of his mother, Chase is trying to balance the life he’s been left with, a family he’s still getting to know, and power he never thought he’d have. He doesn’t understand why the Goddess has named him the Protector and granted him two gifts: the Mark, a tattoo that now covers his back, and the ring. But between getting interrogated by the Circle and psychic attacks from Riley, the Mark is the least of his concern. There’s a demon inside Rayna that’s fighting to be released, and it’s not her inner witch. It’s something else–a monster threatening to tear her apart.
As Chase struggles to control his magic, his enemies are closing in. Everyone has staked a claim on his ring, and destroying it may be his only chance to stop Riley. But Chase must decide if stopping him is worth risking the lives of everyone he cares about, or if protecting the ring will be enough to save his world

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Niki Slobodian #1)
by J.L. Murray

Publication Date: January 30th 2012 by Hellzapoppin Press

It’s not like the movies, where they don’t know they’re dead. They don’t often haunt people or places for revenge, and as far as I know they don’t befriend lonely children. Usually. If you could see them, you might not even know them from some of the living. Empty-eyed and looking around at the world like they can’t believe it’s all still there and going on without them. Or maybe they’re seeing it for the first time. This city is full of ghosts. I can see them all. Lucky me.”
Niki Slobodian was born with a gift. Ever since she was little she could see things that weren't supposed to be there. Ghosts, spirits, apparitions. That's how she landed on the Registry. Now she can't work or she'll end up the same place as her father. In prison. But with bills piling up, and with Niki's godmother dying in the hospital, Niki's becoming desperate.
But when Niki meets Sam, she sees a beacon of hope. Sam gets her off the Registry, something Niki thought was impossible. He also pays her enough money to get out from under her mountain of debt. And all Niki has to do is round up a homicidal Dark that's escaped from Hell.
With a new partner, Bobby Gage, another Abnormal with a gift for Casting, Niki has to find the Dark and figure out how to get it back to Hell. But there is the small matter of how the Dark got out. And if the Dark was released purposefully, what else is loose in the city?

Vamplayers
by Rusty Fische

Publication Date:  December 13th 2011 by Medallion Press

At the Afterlife Academy of Exceptionally Dark Arts, the vampires in training follow one of two tracks: they become either Sisters or Saviors. Of course, everyone wants to be a Savior, swooping into infested high schools in matching red leather jumpsuits and wielding crossbows, putting down swarming vampires with deadly efficiency.
But Lily Fielding is just a Sister—a Third Sister at that, a measly trainee. When Lily and her two Sisters, Alice and Cara, are called out to their latest assignment, she figures it’s just another run-of-the-mill gig: spot the Vamplayer (part vampire, part player), identify the predictably hot, trampy girl he’s set his eyes on, and befriend her before the Vamplayer can turn her to do his bidding.
Finding the sleek and sexy Vamplayer, Tristan, and his equally beautiful and popular target, Bianca, is easy. And when Lily meets the adorably geeky Zander, she too falls under a lover’s spell. But this assignment turns out to be trickier than most when the Third Sister must battle the baddest vampire of all

Legend of the Inero Dragon Book Tour: Guest post

My day on the tour is here yaay. *jazz hands*. The complete schedule is posted here  and is hosted by Patricia @http://www.patriciasparticularity.com

THE FIRST KISS

That perfect moment where you're looking into your significant other's eyes, and all you can think about is what their lips will feel like against yours. All you want to do is know, and so you lean in, hoping they'll want it too, and BAM the first kiss happens. In the media, it's usually painted as some kind of magical moment between two people. In reality, if it's a true, first kiss, it might be kind of awkward.

Those are my favorite first kisses to watch in the movies. They're especially fun to write. In “Legend of the Inero Dragon” there is a first kiss moment. I won't give away too many spoilers but it's by far one of my favorite kiss scenes I've ever had to write. What made it so special though was the fact that it was a true first kiss. Awkward, sweet, tender, but still special. The first kiss can tell a lot about a person. I've had first kisses that missed the sparks and only had the awkward going on with none of the sweet and tender. Then I've had a first kiss that was awkward, but had the sweet and tender as well as the special.

Another first kiss that was fun to write was one for an upcoming novel I have coming out. In it, the couple who is on-again, off-again, gets back to the on-again stage. It's the kiss that tells them whether or not they need to keep being together again, or call it quits for good. Again, no spoilers, but it was fun to write something that represented such a trying and meaningful time for them both.

The kiss is powerful, the first kiss especially so. The more real and heartfelt they are, the better. There doesn't need to be violin's playing and roses involved. Things probably won't go smoothly, but if the love is there, then that's what makes the first kiss, true love's first kiss

Falling In Between book tour: Review

Falling In Between (Falling #1)
by Devon Ashley
Published : self published
Date Publication:   February 14th 2012
Rating 3.5/5

Synopsis: Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me! (yeah, that’s sarcasm)
Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker’s life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.
Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she'd been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it's Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?
Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination.
Mature YA. Recommended for older teenagers.

My thoughts

Cover: The cover is pretty i admit that and the dream like state kind of smoke. But the blurb intrigued me to be part in this tour

Book: The blurb intrigued me what i already stated. It was a fun book.

It all starts when Jenna and her Bff go gliff diving [ pretty stupid right] . Goes down and hit's her head. Enters a place. The in between and meets Chance and a short time later  is pulled from the in between and and on earth again. Wet and receiving CPR. Mouth on mouth by Robert. A dude she's been crushing on like ages. Chance at Night and  Robert during the Day.

This was a fun book. A lot of romance . It felt like a contemporary woven with  paranormal touches.I dislike love tiangles in general but this one was fun . And a good book after a heart and tear jerker i read before touching this.

Give it a try

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

I had the dream again. The one where I’m running. I don’t know what from or where to, but I’m scared, terrified really.
Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday. At the rate he’s going, he probably won’t even see the end of the year. But in the short time he has left there’s one thing he can do: He can try to help the people he loves live—even though he never will.
It’s probably hopeless.
But he has to try.

Frankenstein
by Mary Shelley

Publication Date:   May 16th 2003 by Penguin Classics (first published 1816)

Mary Shelley began writing Frankenstein when she was only eighteen. At once a Gothic thriller, a passionate romance, and a cautionary tale about the dangers of science, Frankenstein tells the story of committed science student Victor Frankenstein. Obsessed with discovering the cause of generation and life? and bestowing animation upon lifeless matter, Frankenstein assembles a human being from stolen body parts but; upon bringing it to life, he recoils in horror at the creature's hideousness. Tormented by isolation and loneliness, the once-innocent creature turns to evil and unleashes a campaign of murderous revenge against his creator, Frankenstein.

Frankenstein, an instant bestseller and an important ancestor of both the horror and science fiction genres, not only tells a terrifying story, but also raises rofound, disturbing questions about the very nature of life and the place of humankind within the cosmos: What does it mean to be human? What responsibilities do we have to each other? How far can we go in tampering with Nature? In our age, filled with news of organ donation genetic engineering, and bio-terrorism, these questions are more relevant than ever.

What inspired you to write Falling in Between? I’ve actually had this story marinating in my head for a few years now. I had just finished writing Metamorphosis and began on Catacombs when I felt the urge to get this one out of my head already. Not quite sure anymore how I came up with the idea but the characters made it really fun to write.

What was your favorite scene to write in Falling in Between? Ooh. Jeez. Hmm… I had so much fun writing these characters. So many scenes made me laugh or bury my head in humiliation. Personally, I think I had the most fun when Jenna woke up in the hospital and Sophie got to utterly humiliate her by putting her sarcastic spin on how Jenna drowned in her undies and how the guy Jenna had been crushing on had been very attentive since giving her chest compressions while wearing that lacey bra.

What got you into reading and at what age, and what sort of books did you like reading as a child? Honestly, I can’t remember a point in my life when I wasn’t reading so I think that passion has always been present. My favorites growing up were Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, More Scary Stories and those Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Do you have a set routine when you are writing? Are you a plotter or just write what the characters feel like to say? [to me all characters are like real people]. Well, with my urban fantasy novels, I’m a total plotter. Those novels have four main characters, all with their own point of view and their own stories going on, so I can have anywhere between 4 to 8 major and minor plots going on. So I usually concoct curves for each plot and then blend them all together into one large plot curve. Sound confusing? Well, I generally have a lot going on in those stories (which some people find confusing – but I’ll be the first to admit that there’s a lot to take in in just one sitting). Here’s what my original plot curve for Metamorphosis looked like (yes…I even color coordinate J):

As for Falling in Between, I only have Jenna’s point of view so I didn’t bother to plot anything. Just as well cause I pretty much rewrote the story in my head anyway - all for the better I think. I really just put myself in Jenna’s shoes and tried to make her voice and actions as honest as I could in those situations. Here’s hoping people find her relatable.

Have you any other books in the making at the moment? I’m currently writing Catacombs, which is book 3 of my urban fantasy series The Immortal Archives. I’m also considering a follow up to Falling In Between. I have a story in my head but I’m not really sure if I’m gonna write it or not.

What are you currently reading, have finished or on your wish list? My wish list is so long I’m doubtful I’ll ever catch up. I’ve got a few ARCs I need to read next (The Demon Lover, Fracture, Saving June and Every Other Day). There are a few in the backlog that I’d like to read for pleasure too (Hereafter, The Body Finder, Divergent, Touch of Frost).

Why should we read Falling in Between? Jenna’s coming of age story is funny, humiliating, stressful, and utterly confusing – and hopefully relatable to teenagers. I for one remember doing stupid things (like jumping off cliffs) when I knew better – but did it anyway. And my friends were always there to egg me on, and to make sure that afterwards they would never let me live it down. J

This or that segment

Vanilla or Chocolate: My precious…

Summer or Winter: Being in Texas, summertime is extremely hot. I’ll take cooler weather any time. You can always keep adding layers but you can only take so many off. J

Christmas or Halloween: Christmas. I love seeing all the lights and decorations everywhere I go. And people in general seem to be nicer to one another that time of year.

Vampires, faeries or zombies: I’m still a fan of the vampires above all else. Probably why I write about them.
